On today’s special episode of 2 Old 4 TikTok Dena and Catalina interview Courtney Bagby Lupilin, CEO and Founder of Little Red Management, the go-to talent manager for reality TV stars from shows on ABC, CBS, MTV and Netflix including The Bachelor and Bachelorette, Big Brother, and The Circle. They discuss all things social media, branding, and the power of video content, including some predictions for influencer marketing in the year to come.

July 2023 TikTok Trends

Dena and Catalina’s rundown of July trends begins with the ladies discussing the McDonald’s Grimace trend, followed by the news cycle surrounding the TikTok Boat Challenge and, on a more positive note, Rat Girl Summer (@umgabi). Our algorithms are algorithm-ing this month, with a series of videos inspired by Venice pickpocket spotter @cittadininondistratti2, from songs (@tjwells55, @itsjovynn) to parodies (@carbono___14). After Catalina shares some of her pickpocketing tales they move on to the Miley Cyrus Angels Like You radio trend before circling back to another algorithm favorite (perhaps a little late!): people reacting to videos of bottles breaking on the stairs like @chrisp.md and @ayame.p. Next they move on to the plethora of filters on the app recently, including the tropical location filter that @mous.kanon used in an NYC train station, the Barbie filter with hilarious results by @howdoidelete1 and @harkermcnair and the existential dread inducing aging filter. The featured creator of the week is @corporategossippod who, evidently, also has a podcast! For food and drink trends we have the next generation of mustard and cottage cheese videos by @100percentthattim and @wishbonekitchen, @pamelawurstvetrini’s Top Chef: Private Chef in the Hamptons series, and a review of the lemon popcorn that @leels_ raves about. Learning on TikTok this week is all about North Korean Propaganda, and the gals discuss content by @right_hand_arm_man. Finally, they close with a brief discussion of @chad.alexander’s rundown of the watches at Michael Rubin’s White Party in the Hamptons and @bryn.elise’s video about beauty tourism.

June 2023 TikTok Trends Part 2: Submersible, Red Flag Filter, Amy Poehler and More!

Catalina and Dena are back after a short hiatus! They start off the pod chatting about their respective summer travels before getting into the most recent trends on TikTok. This week the algorithm is showing all things submersibles, including videos by creators including @culturework, @jackmartin, and @baileybreving. Next, the girls highlight content creator @ilanawiles whose day in the life videos are an enviable glimpse into the world of Manhattan’s elite. Amy Poehler @amypoehler is a recent addition to the platform, and her first video inspires Dena and Catalina to try out the red flag filter. After debating the cottage cheese and mustard trend by @tiffanyymagee and sampled by @erin.monroe_, they discuss private airline company @thejetbusiness’s collaboration with @europeankid, which tricked Dena, and wrap up chatting about @kristalepore’s tales of serving celebrities at New York City’s most exclusive restaurants.

June 2023 TikTok Trends

This week’s pod begins with Dena sharing her experience attending the Eras tour before the girls dive into trends and where the algorithm is leading them lately. First up, Catalina discusses the algorithm’s assumptions about her religion and her love of @briannaapple’s content. Dena shares what is being pushed to her on the finance and financially-minded side of TikTok including some very useful tips from @zacharyburrabel and of course Succession finale predictions (@nameberry.com) and recaps. For audio trends the ladies highlight videos by @madison.talley, @larissafonner18, and @lee.rid, who create hilarious then and now recaps of their siblings to the tune of a song from iCarly. During the content creator segment Catalina discusses @delaneysayshello and @riribibi_, being the person who won’t stop talking about how young she looks, and the definition of a manic pixie dream girl. After a brief chat about @snooki on TikTok they move on to food trends, including the Lemon Meringue Cheesecake from Costco (@ariannagdavis, @floridamomof3), a puffed pastry “hack,” and @babytamago’s summer pasta salads. Next up is learning on TikTok and this week the girls are diving head first into the world of etiquette, with @wtfwhatthefork discussing the proper way to eat shrimp cocktail (a very important subject for Catalina) and the internet queen of manners, @mykameier. Finally, they close the episode discussing the lunch table filter, recapping videos by @carlynicolee and @brettneyspears and reflecting on each other’s tablemates.

May 2023 TikTok Trends Part 2

Dena and Catalina open the episode with a necessary debriefing on the Eurovision song contest and strategies for taking on Metlife stadium during the Eras tour from content creator @roseybeeme. Next segment is what the algorithm thinks they want to see. For Catalina it’s the Boys with Birkin Bags, @angelllboys, summarized perfectly by @herrerashow, and for Dena it’s…people falling down, with videos by @sarahkubiritova, @edouardbas, and @sweetestsins_. Vogue is all over our For You page this week, with casting call videos by @salomedas and @oyesebastien, and a 73 questions parody (that we can’t stop calling 72 questions) by @nick.tiff. Special mention also goes to @galdinosilva’s video of plant-based outfits. The toddler voice-over trend is also all the rage on TikTok these days, with @averyywoods and @another_internet_mom leading the charge. The girls have two featured content creators this week, up and comer @gilbertjasono, whose cocktail names video had them taking stock of their most recent beverage purchases, and @bentonmcclintock with some of the best NYC content the platform has to offer. Their featured celebrities on TikTok include bread-lover @mattjames9191 and the…serious? Billy McFarland @pyrtbilly. After a quick overview of @thewhyteelephant’s milkshakes during the food segment they move on to two notable audio trends: @mikaylanogueira saying Kim Kardashian, to the horror of cats and babies everywhere, and a song about a bottle of hoisin sauce by @thebnoth . Dena has learned about the dangers of driving with a claw clip thanks to @arielleelonys and they wrap up discussing @moorrgs as an aspirational example of expert-level packing.

The girls dive right into the content on today’s episode, beginning with what the algorithm has been pushing them lately. For Dena it’s hair transplants in Turkey by way of @hanelaine and for Catalina it’s the drama-filled world of Cake Tok, masterfully explained by @marketinginmiami. Next, they spotlight their content creator of the week, @madrison.humphreyy, who is making comedic gold from what seems to be an empty office park. The Met gala was this week and the girls share their relatively uninformed takes on the event despite the fact that Catalina HAS read all of Notes on Camp and wants the world to know. Dena has an important update on the after-dark side of the Fruit Roll-Up food trend, featuring a video by @kelseydarragh and Catalina’s preferred fruity snack is the cocktail stylings of @danniwalsh123. Also on the topic of food trends, the ladies discuss a wave of videos discussing British Chinese takeout, from content creators like @charlyannec, @laurenkategriffiths, and @__mjmcm. For audio they highlight Biden by Bo Burnham (@dustyfromwisconsin), people who actually get the Wes Anderson trend right (@marta__sierra and @danclemt), their diverging views on the Fish song @hicorook and the @taylorswift April 29th trend. Finally, they close the episode chatting about @yoleendadong’s video of one of Dena’s top dislikes (outside clothes on beds) and @phoebeindc’s parody of American’s luggage in Europe

April TikTok Trends Part 2

On today’s pod we open with some important news: NYC has appointed a Rat Czar and Tiktok is here to tell you all about it. Dena and Catalina highlight @nicoleolived’s parody and speculate about how much money a rat mitigator is paid before moving on to a very different side of the algorithm: Coachella. How much does a burrito cost anyway? @jackietanti is here to let us know! Next, they turn to what the algorithm wants them to see this week, including @elvolvewithelvis’ computer tricks and tips, @abbeywwwww discussing the Hermes bathroom, and for some reason, serial killer theories by way of @ken and @markymarx. Catalina explains to Dena the basic plotline of Harry Potter so she can understand skits by @juliettewillis and they highlight, once again, Octopusslover8. Lots of food trends on the platform this week including a veggie tray by @autumnhitthejackpot, a big picture discussion of the recession by @prettyrabid and of course the latest Water Tok innovations and reflections by @keelylindler and @samislaughing. Next up is music: the Wes Anderson aesthetic trend and its responses by 

@keithafadi and @valerisssh and family members reacting to the Tokischa song Delincuente in videos by @andyyyduh and @lannahh_. Dena reflects on Tiktok’s pedagogical power, highlighting a video by @that40yearguy and they close the episode with a silly video about books @extramediummedia.

Today’s episode opens with Dena and Catalina discussing April Fool’s Day on TikTok and beyond. Next, the girls chat about credit card points, Dena’s reading habits, and the perks of living close to friends. They bid farewell to March Madness content on the app, including Dena’s favorite college shenanigans from creator @kaliyahwozny. Next, the girls shift to a new segment: What is the algorithm serving us? Catalina gives a run down of two very distinct corners of the internet that the algorithm is pushing on her: @yittielunch and @caremeninthegarden, and Dena explains her TikTok rabbit hole of…you guessed it…Australian elderly home videos (@legallybrown008). Their content creator spotlight this episode is @carolinebaniewicz and they also discuss Pitbull’s arrival on the platform in the unexpected form of a motivational speaker. Next up is food, with Fruit Roll-Up’s corporate account finally catching up on the ice cream trend, a chaotic yet delicious looking sandwich by @thatguyfrey and the wild world of flavored water with @thewatergal_. The girls close the episode with song trends, discussing @ericacoffelt’s reaction to the Call Me Maybe/How Will I know mashup and instagram versus reality posts that use a not-so-normal Sam Smith tune as the soundtrack.

Brands on TikTok and March Trends

Another week, another alert! Our OG instagram account @2old4tiktokpod is back! Many thanks and respect to the placeholder account, we’ll hold you in our hearts forever. This week on the pod Dena and Catalina are joined by friend and Tik Tok enthusiast Steph to discuss the latest trends and of course their guest’s extra special job as the social media manager of an unnamed grocery brand. After introductions the ladies dive into the hard hitting questions about all things branding on the platform, highlighting some of the best, like @drinkolipop, and worst corporate accounts (rhymes with nap) selling their wares on Tik Tok. Next they discuss coverage of the Taylor Swift Eras tour, including @tellthebees comments on the “boomerfication of Gen Z.” Other highlighted trends include medical match day videos and the newly resurfaced Dimitri audio. Dena tells everyone the algorithm leading her to anti eye rubbing videos and Catalina shares a cautionary tale about cutting habanero peppers. The show ends with another creator highlight with Steph discussing her love for @octopusslover8 and Catalina trying to explain the amazing art fashion of @myramagdalen.

Alert! Alert! We have a new instagram account, @2old4tiktokpodcast, and there’s a bird on the loose in New York City! Dena and Catalina start off this week’s discussion of the latest TikTok trends with Flaco the owl’s escape from the Central Park Zoo. They share @graciewiener’s excellent rundown of the fugitive fowl’s walkabout in the park before turning to a trend that the girls have already had more than enough of: the bold glamor filter. As a very necessary palate cleanser Dena and Catalina discuss the exponential rise of @octopusslover8, whose crowd sourced impressions have everyone clamoring for more. Next, they take a moment to congratulate @rohitroygre on making it to a whopping 1000 days of no fizzy drinks before moving on to some of the latest food trends across the platform. Creators like @Halleykate and @narratedblack are trying their luck with yellow dragon fruit, and @kaykaysday’s ice cream wrapped in a Fruit Roll-up is a divisive subject for Dena and Catalina. Audio trends are next on the agenda, with this week’s popular tracks including Ceilings by Lizzy McAlpine, Love Me Back (Fayahh Beat) by Trinidad Cardona, and the sped up version of Green Green Grass by George Ezra. Finally, the girls couldn’t say goodbye without touching base about the Vanderpump Rules drama that quickly replaced the Selena Gomez/Hailey Beiber feud as the celebrity gossip du jour.
