Today’s episode opens with Dena and Catalina discussing April Fool’s Day on TikTok and beyond. Next, the girls chat about credit card points, Dena’s reading habits, and the perks of living close to friends. They bid farewell to March Madness content on the app, including Dena’s favorite college shenanigans from creator @kaliyahwozny. Next, the girls shift to a new segment: What is the algorithm serving us? Catalina gives a run down of two very distinct corners of the internet that the algorithm is pushing on her: @yittielunch and @caremeninthegarden, and Dena explains her TikTok rabbit hole of…you guessed it…Australian elderly home videos (@legallybrown008). Their content creator spotlight this episode is @carolinebaniewicz and they also discuss Pitbull’s arrival on the platform in the unexpected form of a motivational speaker. Next up is food, with Fruit Roll-Up’s corporate account finally catching up on the ice cream trend, a chaotic yet delicious looking sandwich by @thatguyfrey and the wild world of flavored water with @thewatergal_. The girls close the episode with song trends, discussing @ericacoffelt’s reaction to the Call Me Maybe/How Will I know mashup and instagram versus reality posts that use a not-so-normal Sam Smith tune as the soundtrack.

Another week, another alert! Our OG instagram account @2old4tiktokpod is back! Many thanks and respect to the placeholder account, we’ll hold you in our hearts forever. This week on the pod Dena and Catalina are joined by friend and Tik Tok enthusiast Steph to discuss the latest trends and of course their guest’s extra special job as the social media manager of an unnamed grocery brand. After introductions the ladies dive into the hard hitting questions about all things branding on the platform, highlighting some of the best, like @drinkolipop, and worst corporate accounts (rhymes with nap) selling their wares on Tik Tok. Next they discuss coverage of the Taylor Swift Eras tour, including @tellthebees comments on the “boomerfication of Gen Z.” Other highlighted trends include medical match day videos and the newly resurfaced Dimitri audio. Dena tells everyone the algorithm leading her to anti eye rubbing videos and Catalina shares a cautionary tale about cutting habanero peppers. The show ends with another creator highlight with Steph discussing her love for @octopusslover8 and Catalina trying to explain the amazing art fashion of @myramagdalen.

Alert! Alert! We have a new instagram account, @2old4tiktokpodcast, and there’s a bird on the loose in New York City! Dena and Catalina start off this week’s discussion of the latest TikTok trends with Flaco the owl’s escape from the Central Park Zoo. They share @graciewiener’s excellent rundown of the fugitive fowl’s walkabout in the park before turning to a trend that the girls have already had more than enough of: the bold glamor filter. As a very necessary palate cleanser Dena and Catalina discuss the exponential rise of @octopusslover8, whose crowd sourced impressions have everyone clamoring for more. Next, they take a moment to congratulate @rohitroygre on making it to a whopping 1000 days of no fizzy drinks before moving on to some of the latest food trends across the platform. Creators like @Halleykate and @narratedblack are trying their luck with yellow dragon fruit, and @kaykaysday’s ice cream wrapped in a Fruit Roll-up is a divisive subject for Dena and Catalina. Audio trends are next on the agenda, with this week’s popular tracks including Ceilings by Lizzy McAlpine, Love Me Back (Fayahh Beat) by Trinidad Cardona, and the sped up version of Green Green Grass by George Ezra. Finally, the girls couldn’t say goodbye without touching base about the Vanderpump Rules drama that quickly replaced the Selena Gomez/Hailey Beiber feud as the celebrity gossip du jour.

After a little chat about their weeks (Happy Birthday Dena!) they dive into their guest’s area of expertise: makeup and beauty content. Ashley walks them through the Meredith trend by Meredith Duxbury with the help of @Kaylajaye_, they debate the results of the teenager filter, and she educates them on the parameters of a lip flip. Next, the group hears from @emmatainment on how to check their one star Uber ratings and describe the Ancestors trend, featuring videos from @e_nj_k , @emmevv, and @thecampaigngirl. The group discusses the debut of Tik Tok Trivia before turning to the topic of misinformation and what we think of the East Palestine train crash content circulating on the platform. Finally, the sting of a potential Kendall Jenner/Bad Bunny pairing, summarized by @blakelythornton, is alleviated by the comedy of @massmandato.

Dena and Catalina discuss February’s TikTok trends! They dive in by talking about Dena securing Beyonce tickets, Catalina’s Lord Farquaad haircut (sadly not part of the TikTok hair prank), and Catalina finally making the famous feta pasta a year too late. Next, they turn to some food and drink trends: French Onion Pasta is taking off thanks to @carolbeecooks, and BORGS, or black out rage gallons, are all the rage on the platform. We hear from @bellaaalonzo, who explains how to make a BORG, and @erin.monroe who tells us why Gen-Z has the right idea with these drinks. De-influencing has been huge on TikTok lately and Catalina and Dena agree with @michelleskidelsky when it comes to her take on body wash, lounge wear, make up, and iPads. Dupes are another popular trend that @wilsonolivia69 has their own spin on, as does the Whole Foods TikTok account @wholefoodsmarket. Lastly, (TW) the audio trend with lyrics “I try not to kill myself” by @e.m.o..1 has been popular on FYPs, used by creators who explain embarrassing situations like @rachelhasibs, @officialheathergdawg, and @asully331.

They close out the episode with a tribute to Noodle the Pug (RIP Noodle).

They start the show discussing the Taylor Swift Eras Tour ticket and Ticketmaster drama and highlight a video from @mirandahardymusic. Dena discusses running and New York City Marathon TikTok and shouts out some of her favorite running creators like @mrs.spac.ecadet and @kellykkroberts. There is a stitch going around started by @thecrinkle where people have been discussing the “bits” that they do. @nityasweater has some great bits and @graciephillipsss describes her mom’s amazing bits. Catalina does a deep dive into bits of her own. Cee-lo Green’s song (aka Gnarls Barkley) “Crazy” has shot up in popularity thanks to a TikTok by @nataliejanesings. Another audio trend is Becky Hill and David Guetta’s “Remember’ song. One of their newest favorite TikTokers is @dumbmackenzie, especially when the content is about eating lipgloss.
