October 2023 TikTok: Fueled by Malort

In a new NYC TikTok segment the ladies chat about @kieranknightley who saw a fire that wasn’t actually a fire and debate @5hahem’s sidewalk opinions. The content creator of the week is runner @iamlshauntay and the celebrity-adjacent spotlight is @francescascorsese. For food and drink on the app they discuss @catetomlinson’s video of her friend trying McDonalds for the first time, and they close with @niyaesperanza’s investigative report of the use of the term birdie in Orange County, California.

October TikTok: Paris Bed Bugs, NYC Flood, TikTok Trivia, Cheesecake Factory and more!

Dena and Catalina open the episode with a heated discussion of the Paris bed bug epidemic before moving on to their algorithms. For Catalina it’s trivia by @mahanlankarani and a Spanish duet by @aleah_parris. For Dena, NYC wasn’t the only thing that was flooded this week. Her algorithm is all things water emergency: from @femiredwood’s discussion of waterways, to the brief Sea Lion escape from the Central Park Zoo, warnings about puddles (@underthedesknews) and parodies set to Destiny’s Child (@warrenkolewifey) and Lady Gaga (@troyserena). The girls also discuss the sociology of ice cream orders, prompted by @hanaenotmontana’s reflections on the subject. Next up is STITCHES, with @umgabi asking about mispronounced words and an amazing response from @blacademics. Dena discusses the content creator of the week @lukeandsassyscott and shares her excitement for the upcoming Beyoncé concert film. A Week of Mess: Football wife drama, TikTok gossip, and an incident in Central Park

Dena and Catalina start off this week chatting about a Yom Kippur song (@broadwaywiz) by Ben Platt and Molly Gordon. Then, they take a deep dive into a certain podcast host’s incident in Central Park. Catalina shares a reflection by @celebritymemoirbookclub on her algorithm and Dena discusses Jersey Shore drama via @alexisebawden and of course they have to bring up Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Maggie Rogers (@maggierogers) stitched the video about what it’s like to be a freshman at NYU and there is a blue collar guy audio trend going around the platform, recapped by @therealkatherine. Dena highlights content creator @vitakari and Catalina shares some of the latest Shakira and Piqué gossip, featuring a video by @devotedly.yours. There’s a lot to learn on TikTok this week including where Dutch people apparently keep calendars (@faeiryne) and which carry-on bags actually fit airline standards (@rileejsmith). Next up the ladies discuss the idea of first and second cities including videos by @katherout and @avocado.dan. They close with @a_twink_and_a_redhead’s impressions of how people wake up to different alarms.

They’re still thinking about the Roman Empire! Dena and Catalina start off the pod this week with a burning question about how well TikTok knows them, and featuring videos by @chargers and @jfam.ily responding to the Roman Empire trend. Next up is what’s on their algorithm, with Catalina being served NYC Fashion week drama masterfully explained by @griffinmaxwellbrooks and @shopsyro. Dena’s algorithm this week is all about the Italian grandma angry about a prosciutto lawsuit (@gbh). The ladies return to a recent stitch trend, featuring a wild story by @dasiadoseit, and discuss one of the internet’s best sounds appearing in a video by @forsmiles. September is in full swing and TikTok is as busy as ever. Dena and Catalina open discussing the concerts they recently attended, including a recap video by friend of the pod @ashleyrosayy of the Death Cab For Cutie and Postal Service reunion – Catalina’s personal eras tour, and Dena’s experience at the Aerosmith concert. Dena also has an important update. Lots to chat about in terms of algorithms this week. Catalina starts off with a story about a bride overcharging her bridesmaids for dresses featured by @aitapod before diving into Army wife drama and @jesstheprequeldoesmiami’s reaction video. Dena also shares her side of TikTok this week including @thelexisout claiming to be the Delta Airlines pooper and MLM reaction videos like the masterful work of @canadiankels2.0 and @mallorysthoughts. A recent audio/filter trend is set to an Ashanti song with creators like @crazyauntchronicles, @idk.its.jess and @olanprenatt_is.sexy joining in. September 2023: Burning Man on TikTok, Beverage trends, and More!

This week on TikTok it’s all about Burning Man: from its negative qualities (@acesculptrix) and traffic (@thedestinations), to burner archetypes (@stopitparis) and muddy showers (@angiepeacockmsw), and the thousands of festival-goers who got stuck in the mud (@shoddylynn, @laylamolayem, @user919818233). After a long discussion about all things trench foot the girls turn to the other latest videos on their algorithms. For Catalina it’s Spanish creator @elcromass, and for Dena it’s @dani_lyle talking about doing a film project instead of writing an essay. As usual, their algorithms synced in some ways, with both ladies coming across another video about school projects by @teachersoffdutypodcast. After touching upon Gwyneth Paltrow’s unhinged video for @seed they move on to the food and drink realm of TikTok, including @trainwithshay’s hacks for Starbucks drinks and @hauskris’s discussion of the perfect Diet Coke break. @roxyfacer brings some BIG news in the world of learning on TikTok and the ladies close with a convo about the pickle sweatshirt, featuring a video by @jonthrifts. Sadly, for the second week in a row, they do not have time to discuss how @matthewjones898 ate a chicken from Costco.

TikTok Trends! HairTok, NYC Content, Stitches and more!

Summer is slowly coming to an end, and with Labor Day upon us Dena and Catalina open up with @astoldbyginger’s discussion of ending the summer “FTB.” In the algorithm segment Catalina realizes she is fully on the hair side of the app, discussing videos by @styledbychanning and @chandlertate1109 and the girls chat about creator @leahbarzz’s attempt to get a discussion going via stitches about “Saturday Scaries.” Dena shares a video she was served about taking a helicopter to the airport @kevindroniak, and the transportation theme continues with creator @msbrijanai’s account of her experience taking the driver-less Waymo car to work. The girls also discuss (and firmly disagree) with @yevit’s supposition that there’s no better feeling than being a freshman at NYU, and Dena recaps some more New York content including unfortunate coverage of a water main break (@stopitparis) and the day in the life of a US Open Ball Girl (@schrodingersbrat). Stitches are on trend, from @meolah’s request to know what girls in Wisconsin are up to (answered by @ms.newb00ty and @autumnacord, and @lblikes’s discussion of unfortunate graphic design decisions, with an amazing response by @lisarachnid. Their content creator of the week is @amandamccants, Dena speculates that Jay-Z will join TikTok, and Catalina reflects on a tomato cocktail featured on one of her favorite food creator accounts, @babytamago. Learning on TikTok includes an unexpected way to rid oneself of gas (@fumptruck and @sheabuttermother) and they close the episode with a conversation about what Dena wears to work, inspired by a video by @seenbyluna.

August 2023 TikTok Trends: Rushtok + more!

Big news in the 2 Old 4 TikTok world! At the top of the episode Dena and Catalina discuss how they will now be releasing WEEKLY episodes. That’s right, they’re finally bringing you all the latest trends and commentary at the pace the algorithm demands (or something more like it). For topics first up is Rushtok, which just wrapped up, including videos by @bamarushtok1 and some of this “season’s” most well-known characters; @on_thedaily_with_morgan and  @bellagracegates. Catalina’s algorithm knows she refuses to learn the NATO phonetic alphabet, like @nicollevieira04, and Dena discusses the one-day-that-changed-your-life-forever trend. The content creator of the week is @amandashultz_ and the ladies also highlight @robhomecook for a very accurate ranking of tinned fish options. Lots of learning on TikTok this week: Catalina shares @somm_vivant’s discussion of universal wine glasses and Dena discusses The Happy Urbanist’s explanation of guardrails and the ensuing parody by @ethangarz. To close, the girls discuss the concept of going to the club in the morning as introduced by @marthagraeff, wife of a DJ.

On today’s pod Catalina and Dena start off with their weekend in NYC which takes them to the topic of the Europe Test, described by @emmatopp. The algorithm is also serving Catalina ice cream (@asmrdecomida) and Dena is learning about the concept of “girl math” from creators like @fvhzm, @samjamessssss, and @channingstatum. After an unfortunate update about the Attenzione pickpocket lady they delve into some newer audio trends, including @madelineargy’s plea to find out what DJs really do which was, of course, turned into a remix featured in videos by creators like @loudluxury. Additional audio trends include the European dance song by @kylegordonisgreat and the so-called “Ken Milkshake” by @anikahjayne. Their content creator spotlight of the week is @mollybmcpherson and @alabamabarker, daughter of Travis Barker, is featured as the latest celeb drawing attention on the app. For food and drink trends the girls discuss the omelet from the Bear (@gourmetgab) and their very disparate feelings on a McDonald's ice cream creation. Finally, they wrap up with a quick chat regarding @therealqueenofversailles who has returned to the public eye full force and is featuring a very confusing simulation of a private jet in her living room.

Thank you for the rose! This week on 2 Old 4 TikTok Dena and Catalina begin by chatting about the NPC trend started by @pinkydoll and inspiring creators like @thanksvision to go live also. After an update on Attenzione Pickpocket by @saporeditrash they turn to what their algorithms want them to see lately. Dena is getting Wendy Williams clips from @dylangg and Catalina is getting an odd mix of office seating (@saraovershares) and Jewish day school comedy (@michalgspan). Next up is audio, with @amandamccants speaking only in TikTok audio trends, the Prado Casso edit (@chima2x and @misaaa.soup) and the song of the summer Padam Padam. They touch base on the age filter trend before chatting about Jessica Biel @jessbiel joining the app. @sarontings reports that Raquel/Rachel Leviss is also on the platform with a private account, and the ladies are trying as hard as possible to get that coveted follower acceptance!
