Very Demure August 2024 TikTok Trends

Dena and Catalina kick off this week’s podcast with an important TikTok summary by @terrencefoconnor before diving in to all things demure. They highlight videos by users including @pay8thegr8, @averagesisi, @citiesbydiana and @meyechelgossips, and of course the queen of demure herself @joolieannie. Next they discuss how TikTok has reacted to Raygun the Australian breakdancer with videos by @tiktoksbyalexa, @jeanmitchell_, @5149jamesli, @m.e.m_rob, @tortilla__blanket, and @miria7280. Next up Catalina shares a video from her FYP from creator @dept_of_redundancy_dept and explains the Sinéad O'Connor audio trend (@maddietshiesty). After an update on the Bed-Stuy fish pond in the NYC segment the ladies wrap up with @hiremeimfunny’s series of marketing films in the style of the It Ends With Us press tour.

Catalina is back from her European adventures to chat with Dena about the latest TikTok trends. They begin the episode with some catching up followed by the latest videos gracing their FYP pages. After Catalina shares a freshman orientation video by @leo.0.o.0.o the ladies discuss more Olympics content including videos by @ana_demmer, @kirstenlovinglife, and @jhonhebert31. Next up the girls cover @logagm’s Cucumber Tok and bean salads in the food segment, including a reaction by @megruocco. For NYC Trends they cover @nikpollina’s polemic video about what’s considered “cheugy” in the city and a response by @giulia_ak. Finally, they wrap up with some thoughts on the Bratz filter and its connection (or not) to Charli xcx’s Brat summer.

August 2024 TikTok Trends: Are people talking about anything but the Olympics?

This week on the pod, Dena and Ashley, friend of the pod (filling in for Catalina) simply can’t talk about anything other than the Olympics! Well, that and the viral pickle sandwiches they finally tried (as captured by @ashleyrosayy). They segue into food in the Olympic Athlete Village with videos by @henrikchristians1 and @thelibero. And of course, the GOAT of Olympic TikTok, @ilonamaher who is no stranger to going viral - this time with a take on Love Island in the Olympic Village (@olympics). Who knew Flavor Flav was the champion of women’s water polo (@newsweek)?! They talk about the beautiful story of how @michaelablyde got to meet her idol, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Brat summer makes its Olympic appearance with a video by @tylerdownss. One of Dena’s favorite TikTok trends, slapstick comedy, makes its way to her FYP with videos for the “Sad to announce I did not make the cut for Paris 2024” trend (@mikaylaa_dutton, @tiptoeininmy). They learn about athlete intros (@leosburg), the obstacles the Nigerian Women’s Basketball team has had to overcome (@jcubedhax), and the fake news of someone falling off the American boat during the Opening Ceremony (@loulouorange). It’s an episode packed with the gold medal content.

July 2024 Trends are falling out of a coconut tree

With Catalina still traipsing around Europe, Ashley (friend of the pod) joins us again this week! First up: it’s Kamala’s time. Impressions (@aileenreese), VP nomination guesses (@blackgirlswhobrunch), and the viral coconut tree audio used in many ways (@jakedeyton1, @kesha, @merjudd) have been flooding both of their FYPs. Ashley takes a hard right turn into a video by @_djlopes_ about his colonoscopy journey (A+ for editing). Is Dena moonlighting as @fegglestonnn and talking about her love for Lincoln Square AMC? She thinks it “walks on water” (shoutout to @emmaneedsgrace for her Christian Slang). You’ll have to listen to find out. Dena shares the latest update from @raechristine___ on her viral green dress video. A sucker for slapstick, Dena also shares the hilarious trip of @carlaphall and @nothingbutkap’s reaction video. Would you try a shot that tastes like a cigarette like @unemployedwineguy? We fall in love with @fishseddynyc and their hilarious new video. And finally - it wouldn’t be summer in the Hamptons without a Bethenny Frankel parody video done wonderfully by @nicholas_flannery.

July 2024: The Paralympics are coming! The Paralympics are coming!

On this week’s episode, we are joined by friend-of-the-pod, Ashley (in for Catalina)! Ashley tells us how her FYP thinks she should go to Oktoberfest to try her skills at tobogganing as seen in the videos from @danluchsbacher or perhaps she should do everything her Co-Star app tells her to do like @hannapmedia. Dena is finally learning about (@fjdn382f) and laughing about comparisons to (@_zorah.mae) white tube top girl. Dena’s FYP is also showing her content from this week’s co-host, @ashleyrosayy (please help her go viral). In case you missed it, you need to start following the Paralympics account ASAP (@theycallmediffy, @amyo44). Coming off the success of the pickle sandwich, we are introduced to the red bell pepper sandwich (@60somethinglife) with a review to hopefully come soon. @imjermee takes us on a wild Italian food bowl dump that might be featured at Dena’s next Super Bowl party. The audio trend (likely) started by @gemmsauce is making waves and even getting @amypoehler in on the action (along with @bearcreekseniorliving and @everybodyhasasecret). And finally, they wrap up with a healthy debate on whether or not Whole Foods actually has the lowest grocery prices in NYC (@grace.steinhauser).

Subbing in for Catalina this week is the pod’s original co-host, Melissa. Dena talks about two TV shows TikTok made her watch: Owning Manhattan and America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Melissa’s FYP is all about eyebrow blindness, featuring videos from @kellicali25, @stylebystacefizzy, @celebritymemoirbookclub, and @misscaramaria. Dena’s FYP is focusing on the Olivia Culpo Wedding dress drama, with videos from @leggsssesquire and @fluentlyforward. We love a video from @durr.nick asking to read his birth chart. Apparently we are not the only ones who have no idea who John Summit is, thanks to @clairethescare. Jared Mccain Tok (@jaredmccain24) is a fun place to be. For Food Tok, we learn about Surfside Vodka from @mobibojoe and get a turtle chip and pickle sandwich update. Trending audio includes the song “Return to Innocence” by Enigma with a filter called “if I could fly” via CapCut. We like content from @mr.maxabillion, @unclepipes87, and @bethanderson1989. NYC Tok includes a funny video from @casstherockwillson about Con Ed.

On this week’s episode Dena catches up with Catalina about her European travels before they dive into the latest trends on TikTok. Catalina’s algorithm is all Charli XCX all the time, including @kelleyheyer’s dance to apple. She also talks about the content she’s getting abroad, featuring creators like @maddyinmadrid. Dena’s chats about Shaq on her FYP, including videos by @wealth.ventures and @kendrickperkins. She also highlights the Mall of America spinning lady (@lamayrita1, @queenshellspinner) and the girls discuss their mutual lack of familiarity with John Summit (@bestdropss). For the food and drink segment they cover @mommamck123’s version of an Aperol Spritz and @bethennyfrankel’s turtle chips review. While Catalina jaunts around Europe, original host Melissa joins the pod. Dena’s seeing lots of Olympic content, including coverage of cleaning up the Seine from @zozomccormack. Obviously we talk Taylor Tok with the Eras tour still heating up, featuring videos from @jakedeyton1 and @wanderingguru. The latest TikTok rabbit hole includes coverage of the Karen Read trial, thanks to @imnotalawyerbut for the recap. For Food Tok, we discuss the pickle sandwich from @sevenbrothersoceansideny. NYC Tok is all about the heat as summer arrives, featuring a video from @therealscottiebeam. The Tyla trend is taking over TikTok, as @evenmorebrandonspam explains. Catalina (@heyitsyagirlcata) even tried it. The newest viral audio is of a girl saying “hoktua,” remix by @djtalonofficial. The Justin Timberlake DUI drama has made its way to TikTok, we like a parody by comedian @mackenziebarmen.

This week the girls begin the episode with life updates before moving on to the latest videos and trends on their algorithms. Catalina shares a parody of a Stanley video by @emilymoran1 and @lifewithbeccak of friends hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro. Dena chats about the TikTok coverage of the Olympics including an update on Parisian preparations by @lemonde_en and @jamesssryan’s reaction to the Spanish rugby team. Next up is NYC TikTok where they highlight a video by @news2tunes about The Ride, and a brands on TikTok video by @shinestythreads. A song by @altonkiing is the audio trend of the week, featuring Nigerian Wedding videos by creators including @reel_emma_ and @limeandheat. After the girls move on to the Celebrities on TikTok segment with a video of Whitney Port’s (@whitneyport’s) child’s preschool graduation, they wrap up the episode with what @b.dawg.swag learned in her anthropology of alcohol class.

Dena and Catalina start off the podcast with an Old Navy Update and Dena’s experience watching Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult before they dive into the latest TikTok videos and trends. Dena shares reactions like that of @zo.dal to Equinox changing their soaps from Kiehl's and @iam_kjmiller’s idea for a Beyoncé music festival and Catalina spotlights a video about inconveniences by @brett_neusty. In the food segment they discuss @littlefatboyfrankie’s scallion pancake pizza and in NYC TikTok @taryndelaniesmith’s thoughts on cardinal directions. This week’s audio trend is an Irish song “The Spark” (@hospitalrecords) and to wrap up they discuss a parody of a Chipotle PR video by @mackenziebarmen.
