The For You Page is full of Olympics content these days. One of our favorite TikTok comedians, Michael Burke (@dmichaelburke), created his own version of the Olympic Theme Song. Reed Kavner (@reedkavner) set his Tinder location to Olympic Village. @tiktokyo2020news covers the latest Olympics news with clips and recaps. @fitswithlogs talks about women in sports, highlighting this year’s female competitors. Leslie Jones (@lesdoggggg) makes hilarious commentary over the Olympics on her TV. @ausolympicteam captures the Australian Olympic Team’s experience, including the famous reaction from Ariarne Titmus’ coach Dean Boxall. TikTok Trends, Nicki Minaj, Glitches, Grandpa Texts, and more!

Dena and Melissa begin the show talking about the weather and how Dena went jet skiing. The first trend is a TikTok video by Nicki Minaj (@nickiminaj) wishing a friend a happy birthday. There was a weird glitch where people sent video replies. Melissa mentions a video from @nemocsnemiahsmith answering the question, “What’s something you’re supposed to like but you find annoying?” The next trend is texting your grandpa. We highlight videos from @anjanaa_aaaa and @meganelizabeth1016. A new TikTok trend uses the magnified eyes filter and the song, “Hello my names Jeff.” The original was a song called “Ew” by Baby Kaely saying, “My name is Zuzie. That's Zuzie with a Z.” TikTok stars Bella Porch (@bellapoarch) and Oneya D’Amelio (@angryreactions) did the trend. The final trend is the pet thought bubble effect. Other videos we love this week come from @itskeyonn, @wanttolaugh77, @mommarobinson8, and @miserabelle. Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager (@hodaandjenna) also joined TikTok recently. Dena and Melissa start the show talking about Dena’s last-minute trip to San Diego. They recorded this episode together in the same room. Dena introduces a new segment, “Guess That TikTok Tune.” They discuss trends from @lucybaehr showing her newborn baby, @maddiebrennan_ trying a blindfolded water bottle trend, and @bigbeautyjudi doing pool poses. Dena and Melissa begin the show discussing the TikTok outage on July 6. Then we talk about the buffering trend, featuring a video from @ourfilipinograndma. Melissa notes that this trend uses a song from Bo Burnham’s Netflix special “Inside.” In fact, a lot of new TikTok trends feature songs from Bo...and The Backyardigans, as @tylershealthylife explains. Dena explains ASMR on TikTok, mentioning accounts @snackshackslimes and @Crackingclayasmrr. We love a Duet from @averagefashionblogger. Melissa brings up Munchausen TikTok, featuring @adaptivekate and @ren.aissancewoman. Dena talks about the Charli D’Amelio and Squishmallows controversy, with videos from @jordynwoodknow, @thebrandwagon, and @clawcraziness. There are some hilarious videos making fun of Bee Tok, we feature @igorbieski and @drewbies.zoo. Melissa keeps seeing Stitches with this video of a baby doll hitting its head on furniture, she highlights a favorite from @littlefish_7. Next is “ACDC Beegees mashup.” We mention videos from @courtlex_, @monikapagehavens, and @hailiedeegan. “SLEEPZ SOUND” is the next trend, featuring videos from @brynndutelle and @dariong8. Gia Giudice made sweatshirts with her now famous “wakin up in the morning” song lyrics. Dena is excited about Olympics TikTok, Erik Shoji @thelibero posted a video introducing you to the USA Men's Olympic Volleyball Team. For food trends, @fiarvest made bite-perfect nachos inside a scoop chip. Creator Spotlight this week shines on @japanesecarlos who posts atypical things to do in NYC. 6:30 New TikTok Feature: 

Melissa saw a time bar on some of her videos recently. You can now drag and move forward or back on TikToks. Presumably, this is still being tested for now and not rolled out to everyone. 

8:40 Song Trends:

Adult Swim (@adultswim) is trending on TikTok now. Creators make their own “interstitials,” a long-time trope of the Adult Swim brand. We feature a video from @crutches_and_spice explaining why the format works. The song used with the trend is VANO 3000.

14:00 TikTok Filters:

Dena talks about the Glow Filter. Lizzo (@lizzo) rated all her friends using the filter in one video. So Dena and Melissa rate themselves live on the air. We feature a video from @variableminerva about how the filter didn’t work for her. Like One Direction, Melissa thinks Dena doesn’t need makeup (or the Glow filter) to cover up her beautiful face. 

18:30 Food Trends:

We drool over @katherinewants video about Smazak (essentially fried cheese). Watermelon rinds become a delicious savory dish in @rootedinspice’s TikTok. We feature a video from @farmlandguy about auctioneers school. 

24:00 Creator Spotlight:

We’re obsessed with Nahscha (@nahscha) on TikTok. She posts videos of her impromptu singing with friends at dinner and in the subway. We hope to find her on the subway platform and become good friends.

Dena and Melissa are finally reunited after over a year of the pandemic kept them apart. This episode was recorded together in Dena’s apartment. They talk about their weekend upstate, fear of ticks, and Tick Tok.

We begin with song trends from The Backyardigans. “Into the Thick of It!” has a dance trend, singalong trend, musical parody (by @rachel.ann.thomas), and lyrical parody (we feature a video from @rich_alfonso). Mark Mallman (@markmallman) explains why the song is so good. We also discuss other songs trending from  The Backyardigans on TikTok like Castaways and International Super Spy.

13:50 Clueless TikTok:

Next, we talk about Clueless TikTok. Alicia Silverstone (@aliciasilverstone) recently joined TikTok and already has millions of views. We feature a video from David Busch (@david_b_Busch) where he explains he was the guy Alicia shoved in the famous scene. 

18:40 Food Trends:

This week’s food trends include watermelon with mustard and lettuce water. We learned about watermelon mustard from @lizzo who stitched @yayayayummy’s videos. We try it live on the pod. We mention a video from @thatnickguy_ trying lettuce water.

Kandi (@kandi) isn’t too active on TikTok, despite having a lot of followers. And Phaedra Parks’ TikTok seems to have been taken over by her son. Nene has had some viral audios on the platform.
