October 2021 TikTok Trends: Couch Guy, Briggs Tok, and More!

Dena and Melissa start the show talking about Couch Guy TikTok. The original video was posted by @laurenzarras surprising her long distance boyfriend at college. It uses the song by Ellie Goulding, "Still Falling For You." We talk about parodies and commentaries by @gabriellekraus, @stanleythestanman, @mdsnrh, @michael.collado, @latinapreneur, @michi_smallz, and @fakeroberts. 

20:00 - Briggs Tok

We’ve become obsessed with Briggs Edwards @briggsedwards on TikTok. He went viral posting a video of himself doing a TikTok dance to Neon Moon by DJ Noiz. He used the hashtag #pledgetok so he seems to be pledging a fraternity at UNC. His video went viral and everyone loves him. Featuring commentary from @mackenzie0austin. 

27:30 - Audio Trends

The first audio trend uses a snippet from Borat comparing himself to his neighbor. The next one is from @stinkyballs666 saying “Something LGBT just happened to me.” Featuring videos from @johnnywizzz and @mistermusk.

New TikTok Trends, Berries and Cream, Victoria Paris, and More!

Dena and Melissa start the show talking about the latest absurd trend on TikTok: Berries and Cream. Thanks to @knowyourmeme we learn how it started and why TikTokers are obsessed. One creator (@greerhiltabidle) claims to work with the advertisment’s creator, another TikToker (@therapy_thoughts) offers therapy for those stuck on Berries and Cream Tok. There are also remixes with DMX and other musicians. 

11:50 - Victoria Paris TikTok

We explain the trending hashtag #victoriaparisblockedme. Featuring a video from @fluentlyforward1 citing an article from The Cut. Another creator, @susannahjoffe, shows us how easy it is to get blocked by the infamous Victoria Paris. 

19:10 - Audio and Song Trends

We discuss new audio trends like “Soup Girls” from @fishdress, “Am I The Drama?” from @brandons.sounds using a clip from RuPaul’s Drag Race, and the song Grace Kelly by MIKA from user @sarahcothran. We read our favorite examples from @tinx and @girltalkwithjess.

This week, we explain these song trends: “The Assignment” by Tay Money, “You Are Enough” by Sleeping At Last, “What Does It Mean” snippet from Miley Cyrus, and sounds from a silent disco.

18:00 - Emily Zugay Logos

Creator Emily Zugay (@emilyzugay) has gone viral on TikTok creating new logos for some of the world’s top brands. We feature a video from Jera Bean (@jera.bean) explaining how brands have changed their social media handle profile pictures to Emily’s new logo. 

23:40 - Broadway Is Back

With Broadway coming back to New York City, TikTok accounts like @disneyonbroadway and @khaila.wilcoxon and @waitressmusical are promoting their shows (Lion King, Hadestown, Waitress).

Dena and Melissa start the show talking about the latest pop culture news with New York Fashion Week, the Met Gala, and Nicki Minaj. We loved seeing one of our favorite TikTok stars Davis Burleson (guest on episode 27!) at all the NYFW events. 

7:40 - TikTok Trends

The first TikTok trend this week is making fun of Straight TikTokers pretending to get arrested, but in a thirst-trappy way. We feature videos from @brodywellmaker and @christianmhull. Next, all sides of TikTok came together to roast this guy giving advice to help women get men. Our favorite response comes from @yeahitsak talking about his “monster truck.” 

13:40 - Song Trends

This week’s song trends include an audio snippet called “Boo Zoos Waffle Fries.” It says, “What are you doing in my house? I want waffle fries.” The original audio is from @itsamewario48, he voices Boozoo from The Walten Files on Youtube. “Mama Said” by Lukas Graham is also trending, we feature TikToks from @savedbythedels and @mackedy (shoutout to Mrs. Space Cadet, guest on episode 19!), and highlight creators praising Remi Bader. Know Your Meme (@knowyourmeme) explains the “Good soup” trend from Adam Driver on Girls. 

22:30 - Cleaning TikTok

We love a video where @jessiesayhey uses ketchup to clean a pot. We also talk about cleaning rugs and smoke-ridden walls. 

25:30 - Conan TikTok

Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco (@teamcoco) is on TikTok, whether or not he knows it. His assistant beautifully explains all the great things on TikTok, it’s not just for dancing teenagers. We agree!

We devote the rest of the show to discussing “He’s All That,” arguably the first “TikTok” movie, starring Addison Rae and Tanner Buchanan. We compare it to the original “She’s All That” with Freddie Prinze Jr., Matthew Lillard, and Rachel Leigh Cook. We discuss all the product placement, featuring a Gawker article, and note a TikToker cameo from @spencerx.

Dena and Melissa welcome Hunter Mruz (@huntfobooty) to the podcast this week! Hunter has an ever growing fanbase on TikTok where he uses tarot to spread love, positivity, and wisdom to the masses. August TikTok Trends with BizTok Host Kyle Kaplanis

Dena and Melissa welcome Kyle Kaplanis, host of the podcast “BizTok for TikTok” and TikTok manager, to the podcast this week! Kyle helped his daughter Jay Vincent (@jaydecandance) grow her TikTok to over 2.4 million followers and exclusively manages two TikTokers on the Top 10 Global List (@justmaiko and @spencerx). He is also starting the first ever Home and Garden division on TikTok with Winni Designs (@winnidesigns). 

He tells us about starting a podcast, falling in love with TikTok, and advising other creators.
