August 2024 TikTok Trends: Are people talking about anything but the Olympics?

This week on the pod, Dena and Ashley, friend of the pod (filling in for Catalina) simply can’t talk about anything other than the Olympics! Well, that and the viral pickle sandwiches they finally tried (as captured by @ashleyrosayy). They segue into food in the Olympic Athlete Village with videos by @henrikchristians1 and @thelibero. And of course, the GOAT of Olympic TikTok, @ilonamaher who is no stranger to going viral - this time with a take on Love Island in the Olympic Village (@olympics). Who knew Flavor Flav was the champion of women’s water polo (@newsweek)?! They talk about the beautiful story of how @michaelablyde got to meet her idol, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Brat summer makes its Olympic appearance with a video by @tylerdownss. One of Dena’s favorite TikTok trends, slapstick comedy, makes its way to her FYP with videos for the “Sad to announce I did not make the cut for Paris 2024” trend (@mikaylaa_dutton, @tiptoeininmy). They learn about athlete intros (@leosburg), the obstacles the Nigerian Women’s Basketball team has had to overcome (@jcubedhax), and the fake news of someone falling off the American boat during the Opening Ceremony (@loulouorange). It’s an episode packed with the gold medal content.
